Interview / Feature in Quint Magazine

There is a great magazine being put together in Dubai called Quint Magazine and they currently just released their 12th issue which is a music themed issue. The team over at Quint contacted me to run a feature on my work in the music industry and they kindly ended up running 18 pages of my work.

The entire issue is great and is available for free in print (currently only in Dubai) but also online everywhere to read without having to register. Below is the grabs for the article but you can read it free by going HERE.

Hope you enjoy and that 2012 has been off to a good start for you all … Marcus

Interview with Killer

WOW, where does time go? I know that sounds really clichéd but it’s just so trued. I mean 2010 as a year completely flew by and now 2011 seems to be following the same. It’s exciting how much is going on but I do sometimes which that life in general wouldn’t be such a rush.

Anyway, everything is really good this side and I have been working with some incredibly talented artists of late which has made it easy for me to gather inspiration. I will be updating this site soon with some new photos as soon as I get a chance.

The reason for this update is because I had an interview with the really amazing people over at Killer about my photography, working with musicians, life in general and London. I like how it came out so if you have a chance please check it out HERE.

London Newspaper Interview and Profoto Feature

After a really hectic and amazing 2009 I decided to take the first few weeks of this year to try and catch up on personal projects while bands are in recording and prepping for tour. As is always the case, personal projects just get pushed aside when deadlines come into play and I always do my best to help the people I work with where I can. So much for the short break and as of tomorrow (hopefully my flu passes) everything will be back into full swing and I am super excited to push this year.

This week tuesday The South African hit news stands featuring an interview about myself and my work here in London. The South African is a newspaper aimed at Global South Africans living and working in London so it is a privilege for me that they have taken interest in my photography work here. An online version of the article is available to read here and I think it turned out quite nicely.

Then the next exciting bit of news that I have is that this week I took delivery of my new Profoto babies and I am already in love. Haha. The guys from Profoto were really nice to post a short feature about me using their gear on a recent photo shoot that I had with the guys from Zebra and Giraffe while out in South Africa. You can check out the feature on the Profoto blog.

Other than that, I hope everyone is having a good start to the year. Thank you again for all your support and please check back soon for some new work updates. Marcus

Welcome 2010 and First Interview

So we are already 7 days into the New Year and it’s already a busy and exciting one for me. I have already worked on some amazing projects and the response to my work of late has been incredible. I am hoping to really push myself this year and step it up a big notch so that I can continue and live up to the amazing year that was 2009. Before I say goodbye to last year completely, I posted a Top 10 Live Performances List on my Blog and it is just a personal look back at the incredible shows I got to work at last year and which ones were my favourites.

To start the year off I was interviewed by the really nice people at Entertainment Africa and it went live on their site this week so if you have the time please check it out and let me know what you think. They questioned me about some of the work I do and my general working days. I think it came out really nice. Click HERE to link to it.

Back in London and Playing Processing Catch Up

I have just landed back in London after traveling through South Africa for a few days on tour. I worked on some really exciting projects while out there and met some really amazing people in bands that I think are going to explode. I have a few more shoots lined up for the next few days and about a month of processing back log so I am working my fingers to the bone now to try and get some of that out. As soon as I have finished up I have a lot of updating to finally finish off this site so please keep checking back for that.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words and inspirational mails that I have been receiving. It is a super cool feeling when people that I have never met take time out of their busy lives to email me and tell me that they have been following my work and say nice things about what I have been shooting. I really appreciate this and it’s pushing me to keep growing as a photographer.

Christmas is coming up soon so I hope that all of you have a bit of a break and that you enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. Thanks for reading and be safe, Marcus

London Band Photography

For those of you that don’t know, I have a blog dedicated solely to the work I do with Musicians / Bands / Artists. Although I shoot around the world, most of them started since I moved to the UK at the beginning of this year and that is why I have decided to use the website address that I did. The blog is on www.londonbandphotography.co.uk and I try to keep it as up to date as I can and although this is hard (because in the end I am a photographer and need to shoot photographs) I do my best to get stuff up there when I can. It covers live show, portrait, studio and promo photography with bands. Some of the photographs have to wait until they are published or used where they were shot for, but these will be added as time goes on.

And We Have A Launch

After 2 weeks of really hard work and a lot more work still ahead, I can definitely say that there is no harder thing for me (besides going to the doctor / dentist) than working on my personal stuff. This is one of those prime examples as I have been wanting to make changes to this (my portfolio website) and every time I begin, I end just as quick because it’s too hard.

I still have a lot to do with regards to the actual portfolio galleries but the actual layout and backend coding is done so now I can focus on the actual visuals. Right now I have only got three galleries up (Group Portraits, Individual Portraits and Live Music) and the selection in each of these sets is quite minimal and slightly out of date but that is my next step.

Lately I have been receiving a bunch of mails asking me about my photography gear and my work process and although I really appreciate these, and try my best to get back to everyone, it has become quite time consuming and this often gets me working less on actually shooting photographs and getting my work up here. I will still be trying my best to get back to everyone but have added as much information on this site so that hopefully it will help you with the questions you have. Feel free to still email me with anything else you have as I definitely read everything.

Anyway, here is it, the screengrab for my website that you are hopefully already seeing.

Please shout if you see any mistakes or have any ideas as to what you think I could do to make it better in any way. I will still be tweaking and making a few changes during the next few weeks and will make sure to update you here as things get added.

Thanks for looking and most of all thank you for the support and amazing feedback that I have been receiving of late. It is super inspirational to me and I am motivated more now than ever to produce good things and push myself so keep looking back.

Almost There

WOW, what a hectic last few days. I have been running around like a mad man and delivering deadlines that I thought would never be possible and then I got sick for the weekend which was filled with shoots which only made it interesting. I think I might have overdone it slightly though so my body put me out of action for Sunday and most of yesterday but I am feeling strong again and ready to push on.

I have just finished off a little bit more for the site which is getting me excited to finish more. I still have a lot of stuff to filter through and stuff to add but the structure of the site seems to be working for now so that is the biggest part for me. Now it is just a matter of going through my work and trying to get it up here.

Thank you to everyone for the super cool mails of encouragement that I have been receiving lately. It really inspires me to push on and keep living my dream. Your support means more to me than you know.

I hope you are all well. Chat soon, Marcus
