Martin Klein meets Isaac McHale

I was recently commissioned by Red Bull to photograph some images of Chef Martin Klein visiting Chef Isaac McHale. Martin Klein is the Executive Chef for the Ikarus restaurant, at Hangar-7 in Salzburg, and each month they hve a guest chef from a different country around the world … this month (May) being Isaac McHale of The Clove Club in London.

I met the chefs at The Clove Club, in Shoreditch, and shot a few photographs of the restaurant and the interior while the chefs got ready for the busy day ahead. The restaurant had such a great feel to it and I could immediately understand why it’s so often talked about.

We visited the Holborn Dining Room for lunch and so that the chefs could meet with Calum Franklin (Executive Head Chef) to see how he makes his craft pies and get a lesson in making Beef Wellington.

After lunch we returned to The Clove Club where I photographed a few more interior shots before clients filled the restaurant. It’s pretty much fully booked all day every day.

Finally, the Chefs discussed the menu they would be bringing back to Ikarus and worked together to cook up some samples which looked (and tasted) incredible. Both Chefs were an absolute pleasure to watch work in the kitchen and it was a honour to photograph them for this. I always appreciate getting to document the best of the best doing what they do and this was one of those opportunities.
