My Gear
I often get asked what gear I use so I thought I’d make a list of it here. It is something that changes often so I’ll try and keep this as up to date as possible. I have tried to link up products that I could find links to but nothing is being endorsed that I don’t personally use, or that I wouldn’t have purchased myself.
Camera Setup
I was the proudest Nikon endorser for over 20 years but came to a point where I was unhappy with the brand (mostly bad service but also a disappointing product offering at the time). I changed over to Canon in early 2016 and the shift was wild but I’m very happy. I do use a Phase One system when it’s really needed but found the Canon system to be perfect for 99% of the work I shoot. The Fuji is purely for personal coverage.
Lenses / Glass
I believe that good glass is more important than a fancy camera body. Before I moved to Canon I fell in love with the Sigma Art lenses and I carried this through when I made my shift. These prime lenses are great and I use them more than the EF lenses although they are great too. Recently the RF lenses have come into my life and I cannot believe how great the build and quality of them is. I’ll definitely be building on this set.
Lighting / Modifiers / Support
I’ve been offered endorsements/support from 2 other lighting brands but I cannot for the life of me agree to that because I love Profoto. I’ve used Profoto lighting, for my stills, exclusively since 2008 and it will really take something massive to move me away. They aren’t cheap but I think that the quality and consistency of light is worth paying for. The B1X is pretty much my go-to still and I can hire them in any country I travel to if I need to.
The Aputure lights are incredible for video and I rent a bunch of them but the LS 300 is worth having in my kit.
I mix up modifiers all the time and don’t really have a preference. I have a few Profoto ones and the rest of generic ones that I rework to fit my kit. The ones listed are in my kit and I do use them quite often.

Retouching / Editing / Traveling
Retouching and editing (along with admin) is as important as the actual process of taking the photographs. I travel a lot so need to make sure that I can work on the move as well as make sure my work is always synced and backed up. I run an Apple iMac in my studio with LaCie D2 drives to back up my work that I’m currently busy with. Once projects are signed off they get backed up to additional drives that reside at a different location, as well as cloud storage.
On the road I use a MacBook Pro with SanDisk SSD drives to back up my work. If I’m abroad then I backup to the LaCie Mini drives and send one back home with a courier and place one in my check-in luggage.
Music is really important to me to get into the zone while I’m working.
