Mary Fowler for Adidas

This was one of my favourite shoots in recent months for a few reasons. The main challenge? The weather. It really decided to test us.

Every few minutes we went from bright sunshine, to cloudy skies, to pouring rain, and then somehow straight back to sunshine again. Not exactly the easiest conditions for a photoshoot, but sometimes those unpredictable moments are where the magic happens.

I had the pleasure of photographing Mary Fowler for Adidas as part of their #YouGotThis campaign. Mary plays football for the Matildas, the Australian Women’s National Football Team, as well as Manchester City, and she is an incredible talent.

From the moment we started shooting, it was clear why she has reached the level she has. Mary was professional, focused and incredibly easy to work with. She took direction brilliantly, trusted the process and gave everything needed to create the images the Adidas team were looking for.

Sports photography is always about finding that balance between capturing the athlete and capturing the person. The power, focus and determination are important, but so is creating images that feel natural and authentic.

Despite the ever-changing weather trying its best to make things interesting, we managed to create a set of photographs that I’m really proud of. The images were used as part of the Adidas #YouGotThis campaign, and these are a few of my favourites from the shoot.

A huge thanks to Mary for being such a pleasure to photograph. It was a brilliant day working with an incredible athlete, and definitely one I’ll remember.
