Dark Circles Recordings in Get Hastings
I was recently commissioned to shoot an editorial piece for Get Hastings Magazine with the brilliant team behind Dark Circles Recordings — the record label connected to Dark Circles in St Leonards-on-Sea, which also happens to be one of my favourite coffee spots.
The concept for the shoot was already firmly in place when I arrived. The idea was to spell out JAZZ in semaphore using copies of their debut album release, inspired by the label’s artwork design, which takes its cues from maritime signal flags.
It’s one of those ideas that feels wonderfully simple once you see it, but was incredibly satisfying to bring to life.
I always enjoy projects that sit somewhere between portraiture, editorial and storytelling, and this one ticked all of those boxes.
Get Hastings Magazine continues to do a brilliant job celebrating the people and projects that make Hastings and St Leonards such creative places to be, and I was really pleased to be involved.
The magazine is free and available now, so grab a copy in local stores or read it online if you get the chance.
I’m looking forward to working with the Dark Circles team again in the future.
